Our 2016 anthology with ÆOLUS caught the interest of @originpeoples, who soon flew to Brooklyn for the release party at @magickcity. Over the last two years, the LA-based label has been meticulously planning this new release with Robert ÆOLUS Myers @rmyersmaine — “TALISMAN” — featuring new works, original compositions, and remixes. ✨ Can’t express how excited we are for this triple LP! After all, just watching the dots connect since releasing “A Retrospective” has been gratifying enough ☺️ Big up to Origin People’s for putting this together!!
I keep a chest of the myths of myself unlocked at the foot of the bed. I toss memories of things from the night into it upon my waking, as they are shadowed and long to be taken up at another dreaming.
Questions about a playground over thirty and forty years past have recently come up and I am doing my best to wipe the sleep from my eyes.
I recall volcanoes, forests, dancers, players, theatres, rehearsals, and more over many an acquaintance and a host of loves and lovers. We were all so stirred and most fulfilled when we were offering our gifts and talismans to the guest.
It was fringe, playful, in-side-out, up-side-down, and breathtakingly ineffable.
I dwelt there for a time and in my sleeping visit there to the point of distraction, trying to make sense of it as an undigested dream.
Robert ÆOLUS Myers is to play again this year at the Memorial Garden of the First Parish Church from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Friday, June 21st. This is the third year for what has become an annual event in the heart of the City of Portland. A three hour long play event, this year on the heals of a newly released album, Talisman. This piece has had a long life and multiple versions first recorded in 1984. This is one of my favorite versions and not heard for many years. It was recovered by my friend Roger Bong of Aloha Got Soul Records going through some archived cassettes, property of Kit Ebersbach. This work is infused with emotional turmoil and the devotional longing, that can only be quelled in the arms of the Beloved. It was used as the music to a solo dance piece, Beached, choreographed and performed by Cheryl Flaharty of Iona Contemporary Dance Theatre in New York at the DIA in 1987 and again in Honolulu at the Hawaii Theatre in 1993.
Talisman is the newest chapter of Myers’ work to be shared with the world, with LA-based label Origin Peoples, home to the likes of Johnny Nash, Tommy Awards and Lord Tusk, proving the perfect place for this retrospective album to land. It’s the first time a collection of his most impressive compositions will be shared on vinyl, alongside a quartet of remixes, none of which has been reimagined before. Equal parts haunting and ethereal, Robert’s use of melodic flute and twinkling keys juxtapose with eerie washes of synth, that enlighten and immerse the listener.
Talisman will come out on 1 April via Origin Peoples.
